Personal comments
This trail is physically demanding and technically challenging, primarily due to its rugged characteristics. The path features extremely steep uphill and downhill sections on a consistently rocky terrain, which significantly increases the risk of slipping and requires careful footing. Furthermore, the route is largely exposed to the sun, with little to no shade, and approximately 2 kilometers of the trail consists of a tiring gravel road section.
Despite its physical demands, the trail offers breathtaking panoramic vistas of the expansive landscape, including the lush, fragrant pine forests of the Stavrovouni region. From various elevated vantage points, hikers can enjoy sweeping views that extend to the city of Larnaca, the Salt Lake, and even the distant Mediterranean coastline. On particularly clear days, the sight stretches from the Troodos Mountains in the northwest all the way to Famagusta in the east.
This trail is recommended in winter time, definitely not when it rains due to the trail’s rocky terrain and steep sections. It is also strongly advised to have proper hiking shoes/boots and hiking sticks.
Hikers seeking a bigger trail and consequently even more difficult can combine it with Agia Varvara to Stavrovouni and conclude to a ~10km trail with elevation gain around 624 meters.
